This database is intended to enable UN Women Pacific to identify expertise required on a short-term, medium-term, or long-term basis for our projects and programmes.  It is not used to identify potential staff members for permanent employment.

How Do I Register With UN Women Pacific Expert Register?

UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, has been established to accelerate progress in promoting gender equality, expanding opportunity and tackling discrimination worldwide. It consolidates OSAGI – Office of the Special Advisor to the Secretary General on Gender Issues, INSTRAW – UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women, UNIFEM -  UN Development Fund for Women, and DAW – Division for the Advancement of Women in the UN Secretariat.

UN Women in the Pacific (UN Women sub regional office) is the the dynamic and strong UN champion of women rights, providing a powerful voice for women and girls at the global, regional and local levels. Formation of UN Women also strengthens UN ability to provide coherent and timely support to Member States to advance gender equality, in line with national priorities and international norms and policies. It also strengthens effective partnerships with civil society.

The key function of UN Women is as follows:

  • Support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards, norms, and, monitor and report on system-wide compliance with inter-governmental mandates on gender balance;
  • Help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it and to forge effective partnerships with civil society;
  •  Support national efforts to promote and enhance gender equality and women’s empowerment through innovative and catalytic country driven programming working with UN Country Teams (UNCTs), in line with national priorities;
  • Undertake new, and consolidate existing research and analytical work to support overall objectives and act as the hub/centre of knowledge and experience on gender equality and women’s empowerment  from all parts of the UN system;
  • Lead and coordinate UN  system strategies, policies and actions on gender equality and women’s empowerment to promote effective system wide gender mainstreaming;
  • Strengthen the accountability of the UN system, including through oversight, monitoring and reporting on system wide performance on gender equality.

Normally consultants are expected to have at least 5 years professional experience in their field of expertise, however, less experienced but well qualified young professionals are also invited to register.

How do I prepare my CV?

To register with us, you are required to submit a comprehensive but succinct curriculum vitae (CV) onto our database.

Our database uses a keyword search index to identify suitable consultants for particular projects, and this is cross referenced with your CV.

In order for us to retrieve your CV, all CVs must be titled in the following format, please save your file in Microsoft Word and use the correct title format as detailed below:

Surname_FirstName_DDMMYYYY

Surname. Spaces are allowed for double surnames ie. De Sousa, and apostrophes are also allowed ie. D'Silva.

First Name. Do not add second names or any initials. The exception to this rule is if a common name other than their name is used i.e. "Lia" for Amelia. This is submitted as follows Semiti_(Amelia)_Lia_01082010.docx.

DDMMYYYY indicates the day, month and year you submitted your CV. It should be in numeric format e.g. 01 January 2010 would be 01012010 and would look like this in the file name: Semiti_(Amelia)_Lia_01012010.docx

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU CHOOSE 'Word Document' OR 'Rich Text Format' FROM 'SAVE AS TYPE'.

Fill in your experience details as close as possible, along the terms set out in the Registration Form. You may use the specialty area text box to identify more than one area of specialisation. In addition to your Registration Form, we will use your CV to expand on and understand your skill level and experience.

How does UN Women Pacific use the information in this consultant registration database

From time to time UN Women commissions consultants to advise on, design, coordinate, implement, monitor and/or evaluate our projects.  In addition UN Women uses consultants for film and audio documentation, graphic design, and other technical specialisations relevant to our projects.  In 2010/11 UN Women is being integrated into a new entity UN Women.  At present UN Women Pacific has four major programme areas: Gender Equality in Political Governance, Economic Security and Rights, HIV/STIs and Elimination of Violence Against Women, and CEDAW Legistlative Strengthening.  This database is used to assist us to identify suitably qualified people to work in the short and medium term on our projects.

UN Women Pacific will contact you if your qualifications match our requirements in which case we will, on a non-commital basis, invite you to express interest in being considered for an assignment within one of our programmes.

How long will UN Women Pacific keep my registration details?

If you do not update your registration after two years we will contact you and invite you to re-register. You can re-activate your records at anytime by logging in and changing the details of your registration and/or attaching an updated CV. You can remain registered with us as long as you wish, or remove your name from our register at any time by contacting us at registration@unwomenpacific.org.
